将军山滑雪场

Off season

将军山滑雪场 is a ski area in China, on slopes between roughly 1,045 and 1,045 m. Its mapped area is about 5.4 km across, with 22 marked runs and 15 lifts (about 22 km of piste in all).

Over the last twelve winters the ERA5 weather model gives it 52 cm of snowfall a season, 2,808th (tied) of 3,069 worldwide and 25th in China. It swings a lot from year to year: the biggest winter, 2023/24 (100 cm), brought more than 3 times as much as the leanest, 2018/19 (27 cm). December brings as much snow as January here (15 and 13 cm on average).

Snow depth and the seven-day outlook appear here once snow starts to fall. Until then, the long-run record comes first.

We do not show a snow depth here. The weather model we use reports snow lying on the ground — it knows nothing about grooming or snowmaking, and it is not the base depth a ski area publishes. In Japan we can check our figures against 234 weather stations. Outside Japan there is nothing to check them against, so we do not print a number we have not verified.

Winter by winter

Across the 12 winters measured, the average is 52 cm, and 7 of them fell short of it. The leanest was 2018/19 with 27 cm; the biggest was 2023/24 with 100 cm (3.7 times as much). For 31% of the 181 ski areas in China, the leanest winter was the same 2018/19: bad winters tend to hit a whole region at once.
