Off season Official site

Hochhäderich is a ski area in Austria, at about 1,285 m. Its mapped area is about 1.8 km across, with 25 marked runs and 7 lifts (about 9.4 km of piste in all).

Over the last twelve winters the ERA5 weather model gives it 323 cm of snowfall a season, 390th (tied) of 3,069 worldwide and 15th in Austria. It swings a lot from year to year: the biggest winter, 2018/19 (504 cm), brought more than twice as much as the leanest, 2016/17 (215 cm). January is usually the snowiest month, with about 107 cm.

The nearest city of any size is Zurich, about 109 km away. Below is a link to its official live camera.

Snow depth and the seven-day outlook appear here once snow starts to fall. Until then, the long-run record comes first.

We do not show a snow depth here. The weather model we use reports snow lying on the ground — it knows nothing about grooming or snowmaking, and it is not the base depth a ski area publishes. In Japan we can check our figures against 234 weather stations. Outside Japan there is nothing to check them against, so we do not print a number we have not verified. When it falls, and how winters differ

Month by month

Month by month, the most snow falls in January. March brings 66% of January’s snowfall. That is a steeper fall than the median for ski areas in Austria (75%): the snow here is concentrated early in the season. For skiing, though, the amount matters more than the share: March brings 71 cm, more than the median of 49 cm.

Winter by winter

Across the 12 winters measured, the average is 323 cm, and 6 of them fell short of it. The leanest was 2016/17 with 215 cm; the biggest was 2018/19 with 504 cm (2.3 times as much). For 39% of the 243 ski areas in Austria, the leanest winter was the same 2016/17: bad winters tend to hit a whole region at once.
