Sapporo Teine is a ski area in Hokkaido, Japan, on slopes between roughly 311 and 713 m. Its mapped area is about 4.1 km across, with 20 marked runs and 12 lifts (about 14 km of piste in all).
Over the last twelve winters the ERA5 weather model gives it 260 cm of snowfall a season, 175th of the 397 ski areas we measure in Japan. It swings a lot from year to year: the biggest winter, 2021/22 (359 cm), brought more than twice as much as the leanest, 2015/16 (148 cm). January is usually the snowiest month, with about 77 cm. Snowfall days average −5.4 °C at mid-mountain, and its snow-quality score ranks 71st of 397 in Japan.

- When Japan's Ski Resorts Open for 2026/27, and Whether There Will Be Snow When They Do Japan's 2026/27 season opens on 20 November at Sapporo Kokusai, 21 November at Sapporo Teine and 28 November at Niseko, Rusutsu, Kiroro and Furano. Dates checked on each resort's own site, set beside what December actually delivers: in Hokkaido about as much snow as January, in Nagano and Niigata about four-fifths.
- Kiroro Is Not One of Japan's Snowiest Resorts. It Is One of Its Coldest — and That Is the Point. Kiroro ranks 125th of 397 Japanese ski areas for how much snow falls, but 24th for snow quality: −8.0°C on snow days and rain on 6% of winter days, colder and drier than Niseko. It sits in a village of 1,159 people, 14 km from Otaru and 21 km from the Yoichi distilleries, and since 2023 one Chinese group has owned the mountain, the hotels and the Club Med brand on them.
- You Do Not Need a Car to Ski in Japan — and That Changes Everything 175 Japanese ski areas sit within 40 km of a major city. One of the world's ten snowiest is 5.7 km from a bullet train station. Nowhere else works like this.
